HOW TO DEAL WITH WRITER’S BLOCK

One thing that I’m so certain of is that every writer at one point or the other has had writer’s block. In my own term, it means writing becomes difficult, and ideas aren’t clear any longer. You are just stuck. It could happen for various reasons. It could be as simple as having little knowledge about the subject to more serious cases like depression. This is not to say that these are the only causes of writer’s block. Other reasons could be lack of motivation, the writer’s personal life, and many more. It even may be as silly as being hungry 😊. Sad that this can go on for years. This can also be very frustrating especially on days where you have to meet up with a deadline.

Here’s what you can do when you have a block:

1. Understand why you have the block

It could your mood or just maybe you need to sleep or perhaps you might little knowledge about the subject of interest. in that case, you can take your time to gather more information about your subject Whatever it is, figures it out first.

2. Turn your mood or problem to your muse

This is usually for creative writing. Inspiration comes from anywhere so why not let what you feel or what you are going through be your own inspiration. For instance, if you are ‘broke’ as a student, you could decide to write about Sapa and its cruelty to students or better still how to survive on Campus with your allowance adding a little bit of humour. That way, you have turned your problem into your muse

3. Take a break from it and distract yourself

This is quite personal and works a lot for me so I thought why not include it on the list. It just might work perfectly for another person. I excuse and engage myself with other things like going for a walk, reading a novel, listen to music, or playing games. Anything to make me destress. Whenever I revisit the ideas that I penned down, it becomes clearer.

4. Try harder and surround yourself with positive messages

Creating content, scripting, copywriting, and writing, in general, isn’t all that easy and can be frustrating so take a break, return back to it, and try harder. If you need guidance or mentorship, ask for one you and do not forget to put everything in your prayers 😊. Personally, on days when I lack motivation, I engage myself with a positive message from my feeds or get positive reviews from my circle. It not only encourages me but, boosts my esteem. Do not let that imposter syndrome deplete that beautiful idea or content you want to share with the world. You can also try to induce podcasts into this routine that way you can double task.
